When the Sky Caught Fire | Shoreline Sunset, Longboat Key | Business Display License

Some evenings, the sky forgets to be subtle.

A storm cloud was still sitting over a bayside restaurant in Longboat Key when the sun broke through underneath it. Red, then coral, then gold, and the bay water held the whole blazing scene in quiet reflection. The palms, the dock reaching into the water, and the waterfront place went dark against the light. It is the moment between storm and stillness, captured in memory on fine art paper.

I worked this one from my own photograph until the color matched the way the evening felt. The torn watercolor paper edge is part of the piece.
